The border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is known for its colourful history and plentiful tourist attractions; but it also offers many excellent holiday cottages. Snaffle Cottage is one such place.
Berwick-upon-Tweed is a town in the north east of England, located just three miles from the Scottish border. As part of Northumberland, the town has been fiercely contested by the English and the Scottish over the centuries.
Nowadays, Berwick is a thriving town with excellent amenities; its shops, restaurants, cafes and bars are all well worth visiting. Berwick also has a burgeoning arts community, in addition to many exhibitions telling the town’s unique story.

This delightful cottage is tucked away in a quiet street just off Castlegate. It is handy for the station and a few minutes walk from shops and eating places. The town centre is five minutes walk away. It has its own garage for secure parking or for the safe storage of bicycles. It makes an ideal centre for those wishing to explore the area on foot or by bicycle and for those who prefer to use public transport. The golf course, Elizabethan walls, and the cliffs, with an active coast watch station, are a short walk away. Across the road from the house is a pretty walk down to the river where you can gain access to the remains of the castle one way and the river bank and town walls the other.

Castlegate contains a number of individual shops including a holistic beauty parlour, a bookshop, baby shop, interior design shop, two butchers, and lots more. There is also a supermarket, several pubs and two chip shops.
The cottage was originally the stable block to the Lord Francis Burdett Inn and was converted to residential use in the 1970’s. It has recently been updated and refurbished to provide comfortable and stylish accommodation for four people. Because of its layout the cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users or those unable to climb stairs.

The ground floor is open plan with a large lounge area (with flat screen television, DVD player, and music centre), dining space, kitchen and shower room with toilet. Downstairs the cottage has been given a bright, light feel with modern furnishings but we have included one or two retro touches such as cocktail shakers, and a cabinet with all the vintage glassware any aspiring cocktail party host could aspire to.
