The closest town is Hawick, just a short walk away, is the largest Border town and internationally famous for the fashioning of fine quality cashmere knitwear.
Hawick offers a host of tourist attractions, including Drumlanrig's Tower, a beautifully restored building and a great place to visit to discover the turbulent history of the town and its tower. Another excellent place to visit is Wilton Lodge Park with its beautiful walled gardens, just opposite, across the River Teviot.
